Kathryn was born on June 2, 1982, in Kansas, USA. She was, however, raised in Kansas and New Jersey.

Before migrating to Los Angeles, the Kansas native earned a double degree in English and Drama from the University of Virginia.
She began teaching at Yogaworks to help pay the rent after graduation while pursuing an acting career in Los Angeles. Later, she fell in love with yoga practice and teaching; hence remained stick to it.
Budig received her training at Yogaworks under her teachers, Maty Ezraty and Chuck Miller.
