He was spotted grinning as he strolled barefoot around the streets of a neighborhood in the city of Ahvaz on Saturday, holding the severed head of his 17-year-old wife in one hand and a machete in the other.
According to the Women’s Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, Mona was forced to marry her cousin Sajjad when she was 12 years old. Thus, she was a child bride who was constantly exposed to domestic violence.

However, she was pressured to put up with her husband for the sake of her three-year-old when she asked for a divorce. News sources reported that she had fled to Turkey to escape her brute spouse.
However, she returned from the country after finding it difficult to live alone. Meanwhile, some sources claim that she was brought back by her father and husband.
And, after a few days of her return, Sajjad and his brother tied her hands and chopped off her head. Additionally, Iran International reported that she had sent her photo to her partner from Turkey, which fueled his negative emotions.
Thus, he murdered her after her return, also called honor killing in Iran’s culture.

The video of Sajjad Heydari, an Iranian man carrying a severed head, went viral on Reddit. The NCRI’s Women’s Committee said that not a week goes by without some type of honor killing making headlines, writes NY Post.
They added that the foundation of the country’s law and society is deep-rooted with misogyny and patriarchal culture, which results in the tragic surge in honor murders.
Furthermore, a women’s rights organization in Ahvaz mentioned that over 60 women, some as young as 10, have been the victims of honor killings in the last two years.
And, because most families do not file a lawsuit, none of the murdering relatives have been brought to justice.

Mona Heydari was killed tragically by her partner Sajjad Heydari. Some information on the internet suggests that he murdered her because of alleged adultery.
However, authorities said that the motive of the crime was a family difference. Mona wanted to separate from her spouse but was forced to stay for the sake of her child.
When she fled the country and went to Turkey, she was brought back by her father and partner. And after a few days, she was murdered by her brother-in-law and husband.
