The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office says Nguyen, then 18, went to Colorado Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery on Aug. 1, 2019, for a breast augmentation, but she slipped into cardiac arrest after being given an anesthetic.
In the time they were gone, the lawsuit claims, something went wrong with the anesthesia, and when they returned, they discovered her with blue lips and a face that had spread throughout her body.

The suit claimed that doctors waited five hours before calling 911.
Her brain injury left her “in a constant semi-conscious state'” and she needed round-the-clock care, including a permanent feeding tube, before she died, according to the lawsuit. Nguyen later died as a result of the incident.

Plastic surgeons and nurses in Colorado have been accused of the 2019 death of adolescent patient Emmalyn Nguyen as a result of a botched surgery, authorities announced.
A first-degree aggravated assault charge has been filed against him, as well as a charge of criminal negligence homicide.
The sheriff’s office says he surrendered himself and his attorney on Wednesday, was arrested, and then freed on bail.
Another nurse anesthetist, Rex Meeker, has been arrested and charged with manslaughter.
Nguyen’s death warrant was issued “after a lengthy criminal investigation,” Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office stated on Wednesday.

After more than a year, Linn Fam and Sonny Nguyen, the parents of Emmalyn Nguyen, claim they still don’t know what caused their daughter’s heart arrest and subsequent paralysis.
Her family alleged in a lawsuit filed in 2019 that she was left in a vegetative condition after an operation gone awry.
A family lawyer for Lynn Pham claims that the doctor’s office assured her that her daughter was OK and just taking a little longer than usual to awaken from anesthesia.
Even if the procedure has to be postponed, Kim did not tell Pham that they had twice done CPR on Nguyen after she had gone into cardiac arrest.
By sharing her daughter’s tragedy, Pham hoped to prevent someone else from going through what she has been through.
Sadly, she lost her battle with cancer in October 2020, just 14 months after the operation.
